Hello! I’m James Wickham, a former BBC radio editor, presenter, producer and reporter.
I founded Phonogram to offer an internationally focused media production & consulting company to bring my love of what high-quality audio can add to your life and to your business.

I have more than twenty years of experience as a BBC radio editor, presenter and newsreader across networks including the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 5 live, managing teams, developing programme formats and dealing with change across the organisation.

I specialised in editing live news programmes to millions of listeners in the UK and worldwide – producing some of the most listened-to programmes in the world while making split-second decisions on editorial issues, managing timings and dealing with high-profile presenters.

I have spent the last three years running the BBC’s world business radio unit – managing and training a team running programmes from early in the morning until late at night, designing programme formats and being the first port of call for the rest of the BBC when it comes to international business stories.

The idea behind Phonogram is that I’ll leverage this experience to cover production of high-quality, high-value content, while also offering consultancy services to businesses looking to expand their knowledge of how to deal with the media, and how current international trends will affect your work in the future. I’m used to dealing with topics as varied as US politics, sub-Saharan power issues, the business of sport and Asian & European manufacturing, all in one programme; and how to relate them to an international, diverse audience… while trying to stay as relaxed as in the photo here.
